Giant Upside Down Reactive Ice Cream Cone

3Giant Upside Down Reactive Ice Cream Cone from David Aronson on Vimeo.

Presented in the above video at Figment New York on Governor’s Island in June of 2010.

This was my first work of interactive sculpture. A small iSight camera tracked the participants moments and the cone surface responded by spinning and making noises. Eventually the cone would play music, light on fire, be covered in stripes, or any number of random combinations of sound and imagery. Even the wicked witch from the original Wizard of Oz made an appearance.

The projection mapping was accomplished by shining a projector into a mirror underneath the cone at about a 45 degree angle. The programing was accomplished in Isadora. Incidentally the first and last time I used that for this type of project.
